For more than 125 years, Saint Mary’s Institute (SMI) has lived its mission “to create a Christian community in which a sense of values and proper attitudes are fostered, human dignity and personal worth are nourished, discipline and self-direction are developed, and faith can flourish.” Saint Mary’s Institute has humbly yet successfully stimulated high academic achievement while modeling community service and leadership. The school maintains a focus on the formation of strong wills and good Christian habits and values for every student.
The daily lessons taught at Saint Mary's Institute develop and strengthen Christian values for a lifetime of living, learning and giving back to our community. At SMI, great emphasis is placed on respect for all persons through the modeling of values: such as, compassion, appreciation, friendship, trust, listening, kind deeds, patience, dignity, humor and good manners. Guided by these principles, and its history of superior academic achievement, SMI defines a school “where children love to learn . . . and learn to love”.
On a typical day at Saint Mary’s, one would notice our students walking quietly side by side to their next class or to the cafeteria. Our principal would be standing casually in the hall greeting each student by first name. Students in kindergarten through grade 8 would respectfully greet him as well. The hallways are covered in student artwork and our award winning Future Cities Design is proudly displayed in the main lobby. Pre-K students hop across the gym in high energy fashion while older students enjoy lunch and conversation with their classmates at the cafeteria’s round tables. A visitor that enters the school after 2 pm would be treated to the sight of a carefully supervised after school program, where students of all ages have room to play and where the older students willingly help the younger students with homework assignments and crafts. Every smile says, “Welcome to Saint Mary’s Institute”.
